The forum is the closing event for Powell’s Fall 2026 Poet-and-Scholar-in-Residence program at Pratt Institute. Powell, one of the most celebrated political, cultural, literary, and hip-hop voices in America, and V, the author of the acclaimed “The Vagina Monologues,” will explore residency topics, including how art can express freedom and democracy, key characteristics of leadership, how to learn from people whose experiences differ from our own, and what civic engagement means for creatives.
The evening will be the only New York City event for Kevin’s current American book tour. The tour has taken Kevin to Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., among other stops. Immediately following the talk, Powell and V will sign copies of their respective books, A POEM FOR EVANGELINE, AND OTHER SONGS (Get Fresh Books Publishing) and RECKONING (Bloomsbury Publishing). Books will be available for purchase at the event, courtesy of bookselling partner Greenlight Bookstore.
