Pete Rock Invests in the Next Generation With AMXXR’s DopeBoySoul
Legendary producer Pete Rock is preparing a full-length collaboration with Mount Vernon rapper AMXXR, bringing another chapter of their creative partnership to Tru Soul Records.
Pete Rock has spent decades establishing himself as one of Hip-Hop’s most influential producers. Now, through his Tru Soul Records imprint, he is helping introduce another voice from the city that shaped his own musical identity.
Mount Vernon rapper AMXXR is preparing to release DopeBoySoul on December 4, 2026, with Pete Rock handling production across the entire album. The project represents more than a familiar producer-and-MC pairing. It places an emerging artist at the center of a label initiative led by someone whose production helped define an era of Hip-Hop.
The two artists are not strangers to one another. Their working relationship includes the earlier mixtape 21 Grams: Worth Its Weight In Soul, establishing a foundation before the forthcoming album. That history is important because the new release is not being presented as a one-time collaboration built around name recognition. It is an extension of a relationship that has already developed creatively.

The first single, “What You Gonna Do,” arrived October 23, offering an introduction to the album’s direction. AMXXR has described the record in terms of faith, personal development, and recognizing opportunity through adversity. Those ideas provide a personal foundation for a project whose title suggests a meeting point between street experience and soul-driven expression.
For Pete Rock, the album also highlights a different form of influence. His legacy is already secure through his work behind the boards, but building a label gives him an opportunity to shape how new artists enter the business. Producing an entire album for a developing MC requires a level of commitment that extends beyond contributing a beat to an established artist’s release.
That approach carries particular significance in a music environment where independent artists are often expected to develop their audiences, establish their identities, and manage their businesses simultaneously. A veteran producer with a distinct musical perspective can offer continuity, creative direction, and an established network without requiring an artist to abandon an individual voice.
AMXXR’s next challenge will be making that opportunity his own. Pete Rock’s involvement will naturally attract attention, but the album will ultimately be judged by the identity AMXXR establishes within the collaboration.
With DopeBoySoul scheduled for December 4, the partnership offers another example of Hip-Hop’s established generation investing directly in the artists who will carry the culture forward.
