Buffalo-born, now Atlanta-based multi-hyphenate, Che Noir has spent the last several years building one of the most quietly formidable catalogs in independent Hip-Hop —project by project, feature by feature, bar by bar. On October 23, she adds the next chapter with It Takes A Village, her most personal and fully realized project to date.
After releasing the project’s first single, “Urban Essence” (produced by Mobb Deep’s Havoc), Che is back with “Grandma’s Cookies,” which is now available at all DSPs. You can watch the video for “Grandma’s Cookies” below.

“Grandma’s Cookies” is really inspired by the memories that stay with you long after you’ve grown up,” Che Noir reveals. “This is me just rapping, no gimmicks, and no distractions. “Playa Haze gave me this gritty smooth backdrop, and the title is so nostalgic; but at its core, the song is really about the kind of substance and authenticity I feel like Hip-Hop is always going to need.”
True to form, Che assembled a village of collaborators to match the album’s title and its ambition. It Takes A Village features guest appearances from Black Thought, Havoc, Ransom and Bruiser Wolf, with production from Conductor Williams, Mathematics, Chuck Strangers and Nottz — a lineup that reflects the deep respect Che commands from across generations of Hip-Hop’s most respected names.
Che Noir will release It Takes A Village on October 23.
