Mickey 17 & Theo Ogundipe Announce New EP, Share New Single I.T.

Acclaimed actor and multidisciplinary artist Theo Ogundipe steps into a new creative chapter with ‘I.T.’ (Oct 7th), the title track from his forthcoming debut EP In Transit (available on all DSPs Nov 5th).

Known best for compelling work across stage and screen, Ogundipe has built a distinctive career spanning film, television and theatre. His screen credits include Pompeii: Out Of Time with Tom Hiddleston, Mickey 17, Playing Nice, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Netflix series Top Boy. His theatre work includes acclaimed productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company, including Cymbeline and Troilus and Cressida, alongside celebrated runs at The Old Vic, Sheffield Crucible and Manchester Royal Exchange. Theo is set to play Cinna in The Hunger Games: On Stage at the Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, opening this Autumn

Now, Ogundipe is bringing his storytelling instincts to music, establishing himself as a singer, rapper, writer and producer with a sound that draws together alternative R&B, Hip-Hop, electronic experimentation and Afrofuturism to create a sonic landscape that is fluid and free, raw and unique. Coupled with his tight flow and delicate vocal style, the tracks glide through ethereal moments and others of punching grit and pointed direction.

Previous radio support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio London has already provided an early platform for Ogundipe’s music, with ‘IT’ marking a significant next step as he introduces himself fully as a recording artist.

“The title track of the project is a declaration of intent. It serves as an introduction to me as a the musical artist and my mission – it’s a memoir of everything that came before this debut, and a vow of all I promise to deliver with everything I create from here on,” says Ogundipe.

‘IT’ sits at the heart of In Transit, a debut EP that documents the experiences, ambitions, wins, losses, joy and pain that have shaped Ogundipe both as a man and as a multidisciplinary artist. Theo’s upcoming EP In Transit is the culmination of his life experience thus far. Impressively, Theo produced the whole EP himself, after teaching himself the skills needed to actualise his vision. Completely open-hearted, it delves into his goals, wins, losses, joy, and pain, allowing his audience to truly understand who he is. As an actor, Theo is used to embodying a character. With his music, he removes all barriers, and only speaks on what is true to him.

Blending rap with soul and electronic influences, Theo discusses his life against the backdrop of the society he’s in. Born in Nigeria and raised in the UK, his experience as black man is central to the project, whilst his outlook brings room for reflection on a societal level. An afrofuturistic kaleidoscope of sounds and bars, In Transit reaffirms who Theo is and where he was at when writing it. Drawing comparisons to Kojey Radical, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Sampha and D’Angelo, In Transit is a bold statement of intent, signifying everything still to come from Theo Ogundipe.

“In Transit is my debut EP, a diary of my journey thus far as a man and a multidisciplinary artist. It is an open-hearted offering of my experiences, goals, wins, losses, joy, and pain. It is a vow to everyone who truly invests in my artistry that I am dedicated to continually giving my purest art and soul.” – Theo Ogundipe

Outside of music, Theo is known widely for his work as an actor, appearing across TV, Film and on stage. With an established career in acting, early radio support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio London, and a musical identity spanning R&B, Hip-Hop, electronic experimentation and Afrofuturism, Theo Ogundipe is opening a new chapter in his creative career.

‘I.T.’ is available now, with In Transit forthcoming.
