Admiral and ThisIsHipHopp Begin the Road to War Paint With “Frozen Ashes”
The flag on the cover of “Frozen Ashes” is coming apart. Beneath it, a ruined city sits under snow, with the title stamped across the scene like a warning. Admiral and producer ThisIsHipHopp have chosen a striking image for the first single on the road to their announced project, War Paint: the fire has passed, but its aftermath remains.
The release brings the Bronx emcee back together with the Canadian producer. SpitFireHipHop previously covered their collaboration “Insomniac,” which appeared in connection with Admiral’s A King’s Calling. “Frozen Ashes” opens a new chapter for the pair, with its title and artwork presenting survival as something more complicated than simply making it through.

Ashes usually signal an ending. Frozen in place, they suggest consequences that have yet to settle. That reading comes from the single’s visual presentation, which places wreckage in the foreground and gives neither artist an easy victory pose. It is a strong frame for an emcee and producer beginning an album called War Paint: whatever comes next, this opening image asks the listener to remember what came before.
