Though dwelling in NYC nowadays, emcee Zach Kyle pays homage to his New Jersey upbringing on his new single. “Da Burbz” is a jazzy cloud-like dose of boom-bap/chill-hop with Kyle reminiscing of the days of his youth, small-town hijinks, experiences, and experimentation. As he says of the track, “I just want to represent the culture I come from. I’ve done a lot of cool city stuff, but this track is for all the kids I grew up with. Suburban Hip Hop is a very real and beautiful thing, I think. I wouldn’t mind being the face of it.”
Last fall, Zach Kyle released the #SWAG LP, which had a spiritual predecessor to “Da Burbz” on the single “Nostalgia” (produced by Ray Janes) that also was inspired by his experiences growing up and summer camp as a Black person in a mostly white environment.
Though barely out of his teens, Zach Kyle has extensive firsthand history with Hip-Hop partly due to proximity to his father, DJ Jay-Ef whose creative friends include Masta Ace, Wordsworth, and Planet Asia. Over the past few years Kyle has been prolific, releasing two previous albums, Autonomy and Shangri-La as well as several EP’s and numerous singles.
