Following a Meek Mill concert Friday night, a shootout broke out. Two victims passed away at the scene.
Last Friday night, rapper Meek Mill performed at a concert venue in Wallingford, Connecticut. He headlined at The Oakdale Theater. Right after finishing his set at 11 p.m.., a shooting broke out. Some news outlets have incorrectly reported that the shooting took place after 1 a.m.
ABCNews reports that in total, gunmen shot four people. Â Two died at the scene. EMTs took the two surviving men to Hartford Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital, Wallingford Police Lt. Cheryl Bradley said. Â The men were later released on Saturday.
Meek Mill originally posted a short Instagram video on Saturday, calling the report “a lie.† The rapper later deleted the video, according to My Record Journal.  There’s no word yet on why.  A spokesman for the rapper has yet to comment on the situation.
In the past, Meek Mill has dissed other top rappers publicly. I n July 2015, the rapper called out Drake for using ghostwritten lyrics. Â Most recently, The Game dissed Mill on 92 Bars.
According to police reports, Meek Mill was leaving the building and lining up his vehicles. Â Suddenly, gunfire broke out. Â Concert attendees said they heard shots, but initially thought they were fireworks. Â The Oakdale Theater and the surrounding community have not had a similar incident.
Police didn’t link the shooting to either the concert or Meek Mill.  Bradley explained,
“We received a 911 call from an employee at the Oakdale Theatre… The caller reported that he was outside of the Oakdale with a victim who was shot in the leg. Our units responding determined that there were actually 4 victims, 2 with non-life-threatening injuries… 2 victims determined to be deceased.  Everything occurred outside of the Oakdale, it appeared to be near closing, the closing of the event.â€
Speaking about the incident, eyewitness David Phipps said,
“To me, I’d have to consider it a one-time incident.  We’ve had absolutely no problems up here.â€
James Bozzi, Live Nation head of marketing in Connecticut, said the venue doesn’t have plans to cancel or postpone the rapper’s next performance on January 19.
