DJ Kawon and G Fam Black Give “Intrusive Thoughts” Its Own Spotlight
Some thoughts arrive quietly. Others take over the room. On “Intrusive Thoughts,” DJ Kawon and G Fam Black work in the uneasy space suggested by that title, giving a standout collaboration from Boombap Alumni a video of its own.
The song brings together a Queens producer and a Brockton, Massachusetts emcee whose work is firmly rooted in underground Hip-Hop. Kawon built Boombap Alumni as a producer-led project with a different voice across much of its 14-track run. G Fam Black takes the microphone on track 12, arriving late enough in the sequence to make this pairing feel like a distinct chapter rather than another stop on a guest list.
That matters to the way the record is presented. An album with so many emcees can easily be heard as a survey of names. Giving “Intrusive Thoughts” a dedicated video asks listeners to spend more time with one collaboration and with the tension in its title. It is a fitting choice for a project that places lyricism and the relationship between producer and emcee at its center.
