For 2027, the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid carries over the powertrain introduced in 2025. AMG’s 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six makes 443 horsepower on its own, 14 more than the previous E 53, thanks to a new twin-scroll turbocharger that raises boost from 16 to 21.8 psi. A 161-horsepower electric motor is built into the 9-speed AMG Speedshift transmission and adds 354 lb-ft of torque the moment you press the pedal. Together they produce 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft.

Our tester has the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, which adds Race Start. This performance technology raises output to 604 horsepower, cuts the 0 to 60 mph time to 3.7 seconds, and lifts the top speed to 174 mph. The package also brings 6-piston front calipers with 15.4’ composite discs, an electronically locking rear differential, and engine mounts that firm up or soften depending on how hard you’re driving.

The battery holds 28.6 kWh, and 21.2 kWh of that is available for everyday driving. AMG reserves the rest to provide extra boost during hard driving.  It starts in the Electric drive program by default, so most mornings begin quietly. Battery Hold keeps the charge level steady for when you’d rather save the 43 electric miles for later. Charging is quicker than with many plug-in hybrids: a 9.6 kW onboard charger handles home charging, and a 60 kW DC fast charger takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.

Standard rear-axle steering turns the rear wheels opposite the fronts by up to 2.5 degrees below 60 mph and in the same direction by up to 0.7 degrees above it. You can feel the difference in tight parking garages and in quick lane changes. Welcome to the world of AMG!
